We realize that there are many reasons people choose to home-school their children.  The Options program offered through Aurora Public Schools is a great program to enrich what your child is learning at home while still giving you that choice and freedom.  It’s like getting the best of both school choices.

Aurora Options is dedicated to teaching your child and giving them the experience of being in a school setting 1 day a week.   We offer a hands on classes such as Science, Art, Language Arts, and Physical Education for the younger grades and Spanish, US History, Science and Math for the Middle and High school grades.  For the High School students we also offer the opportunity to attend Pickens Technical College to learn a trade or Community College to start working on their Associate's Degree for continuing their education free of charge.

Our school offers that family feel while our students learn to interact with other students their own age as well as ones older or younger. We also offer curriculum that can be checked out through our Bookroom as well as the assessment testing that is required by the state for grades 3,5,7,9,11.

APS Options Program and IEP / 504 Plans
The Options Program exists to supplement and support home school instruction and is limited in personnel, programs, and curricular offerings. The program makes every effort to meet each student’s educational needs but cannot duplicate the comprehensive Special Education programs found elsewhere.

The Options program can, however, provide some accommodations within the classroom. Our staff will work closely with parents to develop an appropriate 504 Plan for those students who need it. Students with more acute/severe educational needs requiring modifications will find the Options Program not a good fit for them. We do not have the staff or resources to write IEPs so we do not. In rare instances students that had former IEPs may be allowed into the program but no modifications will be made for that student, with the exception of 504 accommodations. Our Options counselor, Michele Cole, should be contacted to discuss the possibilities. She can be reached at michelle.cole@aurorak12.org.
